Our Tralee Magic U18 Girls gave everything they had today at the Laura Brennan Memorial Tournament in Dublin, showing skill, resilience, and plenty of heart in three tough group games.
Game 1 – Magic v Liffey Celtics
Magic tipped off the day in fine style against a strong Liffey Celtics side. After leading 28–21 at half time, the girls dug deep in a physical contest that saw both sides go toe-to-toe. Despite picking up a few knocks, Magic held their nerve and came away with a hard-fought opening win.
Game 2 – Magic v Brunell
Next up was Cork’s Brunell, a club with a proud tradition and plenty of talent on display. It was neck-and-neck early (5–5 after the first quarter), with Brunell edging ahead 18–14 at half time. The game went right down to the wire, decided by just a single score, with Brunell eventually sneaking it by 3–5 points. It was a brilliant battle, and the narrowest of margins kept Magic from taking the win.
Game 3 – Magic v Templeogue
The final group game saw Magic face Templeogue. Once again, the girls started strong, level 7–7 after the first quarter and only trailing 18–14 at half time. With tired legs and the intensity of the day catching up, Magic just ran out of steam down the stretch. Templeogue took the win, but the Tralee girls bowed out of the tournament with a superb display of effort and spirit.
Positives to Take Forward
While the results didn’t fall our way in the later games, the girls showed exactly what this team is about: determination, togetherness, and a refusal to back down. Spirits remain high, and the experience gained against top opposition is invaluable as they prepare for the season ahead – including the inaugural Basketball Ireland U18 National League.
We are proud of the girls for their performances today. They represented Tralee Magic with pride, gave everything on the court, and leave the tournament with their heads held high.
A special word of thanks to Killester Basketball Club for hosting the Laura Brennan Memorial Tournament and for their excellent organisation and hospitality throughout the weekend. We’d also like to acknowledge our opponents – Liffey Celtics, Brunell, and Templeogue – for three competitive, hard-fought games played in a great spirit. Events like this are what make Irish basketball stronger, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.
Well done, Magic U18s – onward to the season ahead! 🏀💙
