👥 Who: Open to all Tralee Magic U16 Girls to Senior Ladies — parents are also encouraged to attend

Why This Matters

We know that many girls face unique challenges when it comes to staying in sport – from juggling schoolwork and social life, to body and confidence issues, pressure, or even simply feeling like sport isn’t “for them” anymore. The reality is, teenage girls drop out of sport at a much higher rate than boys, which means missing out on all the benefits: friendship, fitness, confidence, resilience, and belonging.

At Tralee Magic, we believe every girl deserves to feel supported to stay in sport – not just for the game, but for everything it gives you in life. This workshop is all about giving our players the confidence, strategies, and inspiration to keep going, no matter what challenges come their way.

About Dr. Rachel Sheehan

Leading the workshop is Dr. Rachel Sheehan, a performance psychologist and lifelong athlete who has lived the highs and lows of sport herself.

Rachel earned over 100 caps for Ireland in basketball from U15 to Senior level, studied on a Division I college basketball scholarship in the U.S., and played professionally in Europe. Alongside her incredible playing career, she achieved a PhD in Sport Psychology and now works with athletes of all levels to help them unlock their potential.

As Rachel says  “Training your brain is every bit as important as training your body.” Her workshops are practical, down-to-earth, and rooted in her passion for helping young women succeed – both in sport and in life.

What to Expect

This interactive session will focus on:

  • Building Confidence – how to believe in yourself on and off the court.
  • Handling Pressure – turning nerves into a positive energy.
  • Staying Motivated – setting goals that keep you moving forward.
  • Balancing Sport & Life – finding ways to enjoy sport alongside school, friends, and family.
  • Resilience – learning to bounce back stronger from setbacks.
And importantly: a chance to talk openly about the real challenges girls face in sport and how to overcome them.

More Than Just Basketball

At Tralee Magic, we care about developing our members not just as players, but as people. That’s why we’re committed to offering a series of talks and workshops throughout the year that will benefit all our members – boys and girls. From nutrition to sleep, psychology to wellbeing, we want every Magic player to feel supported on and off the court. Keep an eye out for more events coming soon.

A Note of Thanks

This session has been made possible thanks to the generous donation of a sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous. We are truly grateful for their support in helping us provide opportunities like this for our players.
